TOTO Architect Talk is an annual event including the Architect Talk and Architecture Design Contest held by TOTO Vietnam Co., Ltd in collaboration with TOTO Gallery MA, and media sponsored by Vietnam Association of Architects.
TOTO Vietnam Co., Ltd has successfully organized lectures from master architects from Japan such as Shigeru Ban, Hiroshi Naito, Takahru Tezuka, Akihisa Hirata, Yoshiharu Tsukamoto.
TOTO Architect Talk 2023 event has come back with the participation of Architect Junya Ishigami – Founder of Junya.ishigami+associates.
Junya Ishigami says he wants to create architecture as if it were a landscape, and with his flexible, unconventional ideas, he has created many never-before-seen buildings.
As the modern era which pursued a single goal comes to an end and diverse perspectives are respected in today’s world, he regards the future and the past equally, and his architecture which incorporates the environment and the rich information that antiquity holds has captivated people around the world.
In TOTO Architect Talk 2024, Yunya Ishigami will have a talk about his works, including recent projects.

In 2024, inspired by Junya Ishigami’s design philosophy, TOTO launched Design Contest named “RE-ARRANGEMENT”
In the Anthropocene, humans have become accustomed to recognizing architecture as a link in the cycle of natural resource exploitation, built environment construction, and destruction to continue a new cycle that will more or less affect the Earth’s geosphere. This has become so obvious that few people question the possibilities outside of this cycle.
Rearranging existing entities to create new forms and combinations with new programs can be used as a counterpoint to the traditional approach. However, unlike “recycle”, which focuses on the life cycle of materials, or “repurpose/adaptive reuse”, which focuses on implanting functions, “Rearrangement” aims to establish a cycle of shifting and exchanging to form new combinations from existing natural or artificial entities. A new spatial environment will be generated from this. Landscapes can be created within architecture and architecture can be formed within landscapes. It could be a forest replanted from other forests, a house rebuilt from other houses, a forest replanted from houses or a house built from forests.
The Contest invites you to observe and think about the architectural and landscape possibilities that can be formed by reorganizing, and rearranging existing objects in your city. We do not limit the scale or your ability to intervene in this rearrangement.
The goal of the contest:
To encourage students and practitioners to be creative, instead of focusing on creating new architectural entities, they should observe and restructure or rearrange existing physical or non-physical forms. Swapping functions and adapting to different contexts creates architectural possibilities that reshape urban structures.
– The Contest submission must be presented on an A1 sheet according to the available template.
– The Contest submission needs to demonstrate: Analysis of the current status of the location chosen to implement the project.

Winners must be responsible for paying income tax in accordance with the Vietnamese government’s regulations.
TOTO Architect Talk, which was launched in 2017, successfully coordinated 05 talks from renowned Japanese architects: Shigeru Ban, Hiroshi Naito, Takahru Tezuka, and Akihisa Hirata, Yoshiharu Tsukamoto.
Along with the success of the 05 speaking seasons, the 05 Architecture Contests have also thrived, providing a platform for learning and networking. This is an opportunity for the young generation of architects and architecture students to make a personal mark on their career path.
The TOTO Architect Talk is a FREE talk for architects, students majoring in architecture or design, and anyone (over the age of 18) who is passionate about this field.
The talk will be presented by the speakers in Japanese and will be translated into Vietnamese simultaneously.
The Architect Talk is in 9/11/2024. To avoid the case of participants registering but forgetting the event, the lecture will open for registration in early October.
