Yutaka Saito Architect

Born in 1947 in Otaru, Hokkaido. He is self-taught in architecture. 1970 Established Yutaka Saito Architectural Institute. In 1986, he won the Japan Institute of Architects Prize for the Best Young Architect of the Year for “Rurururu Abo”. In 1992, he won the Yoshida Isohachi Prize for “Kohichikyo”. In 2000, he received the Architectural Institute of Japan Award and the work selection “Mangetsukyo”. His architectural works include “Architecture of Yutaka Saito” (1998/TOTO Publishing) and “Contemporary Architect Series Yutaka Saito” (1994/Kajima Publishing).
In recent years, he has begun experimenting with space through photography and published photo books such as “The Architecture of Luis Barragan” (1992), “The World of Felix Candela” (1995), “Architectural Poet Carlo Scarpa” ( 1997), “Casa Barragan” (2002), “All Houses of Louis Kahn” (2003), “Villa Mairea/Alvar Aalto” (2005/all published by TOTO).
