We cordially invite you to visit our Architecture exhibition “ADAPTATION & SETTLEMENT” in collaboration with k59 Atelier, Tản Mạn Kiến Trúc (Architecture Excursions), and Architect Ryosuke Koizumi.
“The journey of human migration and settlement has led to the formation of residential communities, where they built villages and markets, creating safe spaces suitable for living needs. Interacting with the natural conditions and specific culture, Southern residential architecture forms its characteristics, reflecting the adaptation to the natural conditions and local climate. The house also becomes a “memory storage box” about ancestors, relatives, moral relationships, and even the life views of those who built the house on land they have just arrived.”

The architectural exhibition “ADAPTATION & SETTLEMENT” aims to stimulate interest about traditional residential architecture and the adaptive changes of the house in the new era.
In this exhibition, the architectural models and drawings of the k59 Atelier are interspersed with handwritten drawings and sketches from the fieldwork of Tan Man Kien Truc, combined with studies on interiors and sitting postures of Vietnamese people by Architect Ryosuke Koizumi.
A publication accompanying the exhibition gathers essays and dialogues between k59 Atelier, Tan Man Kien Truc and Ryosuke Koizumi, and comments and evaluations by Prof Christina Schwenkel – PhD in Anthropology, University of California – Riverside, Prof. Kelly Shannon and Prof Bruno De Meulder – Professor of Architecture and Urban Studies, University of Ku Leuven.
In addition, the exhibition will have 03 Sunday dialogue sessions: the Opening Session (December 15), the Walking Session (December 22), and the Together Session (December 29). These sessions will help us better understand the exhibition and its participants.
What does it mean to adapt and dwell? Perhaps each of us will find our own story—and share it as part of this exhibition’s journey. And finally, in order to make the Exhibition become a more complete picture, we also hope to receive your interaction and contributions during the exhibition.
